Happy New Year

Hello Life Ride 2012 Followers,

Well, 2011 is just about to end and I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year! Just finished the last ride of the year, a 45 mile run down towards the beach and back, meeting Michele on the return leg and finishing the last 10 miles together. Total for 2011 was 3561 miles.

2012 should be an interesting one indeed: Lots of training preparing for the Life Ride; I'm going to try to get in about 2000 miles before the start of the great adventure.

Go ahead and subscribe for email notifications of blog updates. Also, we're working on twitter and facebook ways to stay in touch.

May God bless you and your families in 2012.

Feast of the Holy Innocents

In the Catholic liturgical calendar, today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Innocents, all those young boys in and around Bethlehem, two and under, whom Herod massacred in order to kill our real King.  Sitting at Mass this morning listening to the Gospel reading (Mt 2: 13-18), I thought it appropriate on this feast day to add a post to the Life Ride 2012 blog.

In 2009, Michele and I traveled on pilgrimage to the Holy Land. When in Bethlehem, we entered the Church of the Holy Innocents and saw a mural on the wall depicted those children lost to Herod’s fear and anger. I was deeply touched by the joy and happiness contained on the faces of these infants.

Of course they were happy because they were now with our Lord.

We do not know their names but it is thought that about 20 to 30 young boys were slaughtered. Contrast that today with 4000 innocents lost each and every day in our country. What is the fear and anger that fuels this modern day massacre?

Pray for the lost Innocents.
